Last night I took the kids with me to my family doc for a quick visit to discuss my options for prenatal care. He doesn’t do prenatal work but after I took a test in his office to prove I was in fact pg, he referred me to an ob-gyn in St. Albert. Taking the test was rather amusing, as Xan and Izzy were with me in the bathroom and Xan was very interested in what I was doing – “why are you peeing in there mommy, can I hold your pee cup, why does the nurse want your pee pee” and on and on….
Fortunately we were only there a short time and supposedly I will hear from the ob-gyn in the next couple of weeks about scheduling my first visit. Since this is the same ob some friends suggested I’m not feeling too hopeful about the timeline. I had called and been told they weren’t scheduling appts until July and that I needed a referral. Well now I have a referral but JULY – seriously that seems kind of late in the game doesn’t it? I’ll be like 20+ weeks by then!
I have a back-up appt with my old ob-gyn in late April just in case. I really liked him, I just don’t want to deliver at the same hospital – I’ve been there twice and while it is a good quality place it is way too busy – being the only central hospital in the city and having one of the two higher level NICU’s – it serves a very large number of people. Last time I got stuck in a ward room with three other women even though I happily would have paid for a private room. I’m hoping the St. Albert hospital is slightly less busy (but I could be wrong!)
So next week at work I start my new paralegal position – I’m really excited! I already have some assignments that seem interesting. I also already had to take an afternoon off, which feels silly but I so need to register Izzy for kindergarten and the school was closed for spring break this week. Last week they only were in a couple days because the strike was finally over after Monday. I was going to go Friday but it was a pd day – really, it should be easier to get a kiddo registered for school!
Anyway – that’s the fun for now!
I know DH and I decided for sure we wanted another baby, but it’s actually happening and I’m a little freaked out. We weren’t going to try until summer (aiming for a spring ‘08 baby) but our slightly careless methods of birth control appear to have made a new decision about the timing. Baby #3 is coming in November – probably mid-November if he/she is as cooperative as Izzy and Xan were.
The timing is definitely awkward – I start my paralegal position on Apr 2 and it is supposed to go until January or so. Izzy starts Kindergarten in the fall and will have to make a transition to school + daycare and then to school + home part time. I have no idea if I can even make the baby carseat fit into the Jeep and I can’t experiment until I get the carseat back, it’s currently on loan to someone who should be nearly finished with it.
Still, practicality aside, I was SO excited when the second line came up on that pg test! I ran downstairs to show DH and he was pretty happy for someone who had no idea I was even taking a test. Later that night he was even better. He got home from work, asked how his boys were and how his baby was – kissed my stomach and said he wanted me to know even if he hadn’t seemed excited initially he was really happy we were having another baby. He’s always been more sure than me though that we could handle 3 or 4 kids!
So the journey begins again….
